In Pursuit of "Perfection"

- Graduation Showcase -

The way I perceive myself in the mirror is often different from how others view me, due to the reflection. It's not uncommon for individuals to feel dissatisfied with their physical appearance, leading to a desire to change or "fix" themselves. This can result in continuous comparisons with others and negative self-talk.

With the advent of social media, people's perceptions of themselves have been distorted, leading to their dressing up only to impress others and hiding flaws despite discomfort. Justin Bartels' photo series "Impression" centers on this topic.

This collection celebrates the acceptance of flaws and living in the present moment applying kintsugi wisdom, where opposites can complement each other.

For some cases, body shapes change due to the illnesses they are having, whereas a perfection becomes an imperfection. However, everyone is perfect in their imperfections.

The images below, taken from Justin Bartels' "Impression," show the traces or imprints that a woman's removal of clothing leaves on her skin in spite of her "comfort" to cover up her physical flaws. In this collection, I have chosen to use this idea as part of the textile manipulation.

In relation to the concept of rickets patients, I have applied its bowed legs silhouette onto my paper pattern.

In terms of my color scheme, I want to convey the idea that opposites can enhance one another by using contrasting hues. I decided to use double-faced fabric as a result in this collection.
