INSOMNOLENCE
A personal concept to portray that sleep is essential to all of us. Sleep deprivation happens when I am not giving myself time to sleep and do not have enough sleep.
It is also a state where we let our unconscious mind take control. To explore this idea further, I have looked into Automatism, an art movement, is a creative technique to produce art without accessing materials from conscious thought. I have also analyzed on artworks by André Masson and Salvador Dali.
This capsule collection highlights sustainability with upcycling and deconstruction using a thrifted puffer jacket and a pre-used duvet. This project furthermore hopes to convey a synergy that is adaptable for versatile occasions within the snaps to promote the idea of circular fashion, without piling up the wardrobe with more new clothes, due to overconsumption.
This project was also participated in the East Coast Green Festival 2022, Bedok North Ave 3.

Automatism is to create art unknowingly, without conscious thought.
As part of the development of my collection, I have drawn inspiration for textile manipulation from “Automatism”. To portray this, I have featured the quilting effect on the padded skirt with organic and irregular patterns which I gained from drawing unknowingly with fabric chalk, while having my eyes closed. I had to intentionally edit back some lines as the patterns appear better with some spaces in between.
It is quirky.
It is efficient.
It is transformable, within a series of snaps.
